NEW Produce Spotlight: Pure Michigan Produce & New Bite!

Northville Public Schools is excited to introduce a new bi-weekly Produce Spotlight program in our school cafeterias this year! Every two weeks, students will have the opportunity to taste and learn about two special food items:

  • Pure Michigan Produce – A locally grown fruit or vegetable from right here in Michigan.
  • New Bite – A unique or unusual food that may be new to many students.

The program is designed to help students explore new flavors, discover nutritious foods, and learn fun facts about where their food comes from.

The idea was dreamed up by our Food Service Manager, Carrie Morfino, who planned out the entire year of featured items.

“We want to create excitement around fresh, healthy foods while supporting local farms,” Morfino shared. “It’s all about giving kids the chance to try something new in a fun, low-pressure way.”

First Feature: September 8–19

  • Pure Michigan Produce: Peaches 🍑
Grown by Hildebrand Fruit Farms in Berrien Springs, MI
Peach and a yellow text box.

  • New Bite: Kohlrabi
A crunchy veggie that tastes a little like broccoli stems with a hint of apple—especially tasty when sliced and dipped in ranch!
Orange background with a picture of kohlrabi and text.

Encourage your student to give these spotlight foods a try and ask them what they thought of it. You just might find a new favorite food to add to your family’s grocery list!

Coming Soon: September 22–October 3

  • Pure Michigan Produce: Zucchini
Grown by Ruhlig Farms & Garden Center in Brownstown, MI
  • New Bite: Plums
Juicy, sweet fruits with a tangy kick, like a mix between a grape and a peach!
