Northville Public Schools is thrilled to announce that 65 students from Northville High School have been recognized as National Merit Scholars in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program. This prestigious honor highlights the academic excellence and dedication of our students. Out of these 65 scholars, 23 were named Semifinalists, while 42 have been commended for their outstanding performance.
These students were selected based on their exemplary scores on the 2023 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®). The Semifinalists represent less than one percent of high school seniors nationwide and now have the opportunity to compete for nearly 6,870 National Merit Scholarships worth $26 million, to be awarded in spring 2025.
Semifinalists must meet a series of rigorous requirements to advance to the Finalist level, including submitting a detailed scholarship application that demonstrates their academic record, leadership abilities, and participation in school and community activities. Approximately 95 percent of Semifinalists are expected to achieve Finalist status, and about half of these students will go on to win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the prestigious title of Merit Scholar®.
Commended students, though not continuing in the competition, are acknowledged for placing among the top 50,000 students who entered the program, marking them as among the most talented in the nation.
