Come see what a day in the life of a principal is like. Welcome to my classroom. Every morning I start outside greeting the students who come either by a car pick up or by bus. And this is by far my favorite part of my day, as I get to talk to the kids individually, say good morning to them and just really make sure that they start the day with a friendly face and someone warm that is welcoming them into the building. And then one of the things that I do everyday, which is a non-negotiable for me, that like if I'm in the middle of a meeting I will stop and go do it is walking the entire building and making sure I say good morning to every classroom and every staff member. Throughout the day it depends, there might be a time that I might need to sit one-on-one with a student to maybe help them regulate or maybe just answer some questions that they might have. Sometimes I might just sit in the hallway with some kiddos that are we working on something and I'm just super interested what it is that they're working on. My day is centralized around students and how to support them and then also how to support the staff that support them. I get really the opportunity to watch our staff here, they're magicians. Every day they make magic and I get the pleasure of watching it happen, as we talk about it often is that we grow unicorns here and unique little individuals that one day will impact the world in so many different ways. I was the recipient of an NEF grant this past November I believe it was. I got a grant for a sensory path that over our winter break myself, one of our custodians and one of our office staff put it in and it's been fantastic. We do have times that we take kids specifically just to do the sensory path or a classroom teacher will take a class there to do the sensory path just to help get those wiggles out but it's really fun to watch kids that just walk down that hallway, just automatically use it and it's not just kids, it's adults too, like I sometimes can't help myself going through the pattern or hopping leaf to leaf or whatever it says to do because that crossbody motion really does help focus and bring you back to your task at hand. I think one things I love about my job is that my day is always changing, there is never a day that was like the day before and of course there are challenges that come with it, however my day is full of smiles and hugs and I don't think I would change a single thing. I love what I get to do everyday.
