Classroom Close-Up: Ms. Traylor, Meads Mill Middle School

For this Classroom Close-Up, we visited Ms. Traylor's 6th grade Language and Literature class at Meads Mill Middle School. In their Courage Unit, students are learning about ways to impact their community. They are selling candy canes for their service to action project. With the money, the students plan to buy presents for C.S. Mott Children's Hospital.

Hi there, welcome to Meads Mill. I'm Tonya Traylor and this is our sixth grade language and literature classroom. Today we're working in our unit called Courage where we've been working on understanding how kids can influence the community and what actions will lead to better successes. Today our kids are working on their service in action project and come on in and take a look. So we're working on Motts like community it's like for courage our courage unit and its were selling candy canes by making like posters and morning announcements to show the school how we're going to make a difference in the hospital. So we're helping those kids get like toys for Christmas, for Thanksgiving, for Halloween, so when they're in there for like months and weeks doing surgeries they must be scared. So we are giving them something so they're not as much scared as they are. I think it's really special that we know that we're giving to our community to help with kids who need help and it's just really really special thing.
